DELF and DALF are internationally recognised certificates for French as a Foreign Language, which testify to the holder’s command of four sets of language skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written language production and oral expression. They are issued on behalf of the French Ministry of Education, Universities and Research.
DELF comprises the levels A1 to B2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
DALF comprises the levels C1 to C2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Each of these levels can be completed in entirely separate examinations, which means that you are able to decide freely for yourself which language certificate, at what level, you wish to acquire.
A DELF certificate testifying to a B2 command of French is all that it takes to enrol at a French university.
Each one of the language levels (A1 to C2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) can be taken in the form of completely separate examinations. Each of these examinations is made up of the exam sections: listening comprehension, reading comprehension and text production, plus a separate oral examination.
The overall examination grade is awarded on the basis of a 100-point scale, with a maximum of 25 points awarded to each competence. To acquire the language certificate, the examination candidates must obtain a minimum of 50 points, but must achieve no fewer than 5 points (from a maximum possible of 25) in each area of competence.
Additional information on the form taken by the examination, together with examples of the topics examined, can be found on the internet page of France education international:

In the course of the language classes offered to you at the Language Centre of the University of Passau, your French lecturer will provide you with language skills tailored to the demands made on you by the respective examination formats.

Dates for 2025 will be announced shortly.
